A Natural Wonder in the Poconos

The Tannersville Cranberry Bog Preserve is an ecosystem unlike any other in NEPA. This preserve, which is owned by The Nature Conservancy, was once home to a large glacial lake. Over thousands of years, the lake transformed into the southernmost low-elevation boreal bog on the eastern seaboard. The bog is home to diverse plant life, including native orchids, carnivorous plants, and several endangered species.

Two trails at the preserve are open for public access. The North Woods Trail is a flat loop along the edge of the wetland. It offers a short loop and a longer loop, which are great for hiking and cross-country skiing. The Fern Ridge Trail is a loop that travels through the forest and along the edge of the bog.

Due to the fragile ecosystem, the Boardwalk Trail through the bog is only accessible during guided tours. The Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center holds regularly scheduled hikes throughout the summer and fall.
