From the Railroads to the River

Follow the old railroad bed on the Susquehanna Warrior Trail, a 12.5-mile trail that extends from the Susquehanna Riverlands in Salem Township to Canal Park in West Nanticoke. This once-forgotten piece of nature has been brought back to life by a group of dedicated volunteers, the Susquehanna Warrior Trail Council.

The trail runs parallel to Route 11 and follows the scenic Susquehanna River, where you have a good chance of spotting bald eagles, river otters, and heron along the way. The trail is also adjacent to the old North Branch Canal and other historical attractions.

The trail is about ten feet wide with a hard-packed surface of crushed stone, making it a popular spot for hiking and biking. Much of the trail is shaded.

Every spring, the Susquehanna Warrior Trail hosts a 5K Race and Fun Walk. This major fundraiser helps cover trail maintenance and operating expenses.

Parking and trail access is available at Susquehanna Riverlands, Shickshinny Park, the corner of North Susquehanna Avenue and Oak Street in Shickshinny, Union Township Boat Launch, Garden Drive-In in Hunlock Creek, and Canal Park in West Nanticoke.
