Welcome to the Electric City

Scranton earned its nickname as the home to one of the first electric trolley lines. Today, the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum keeps Scranton’s past alive. Located at the Steamtown National Historic Site, this museum is a fun and interactive place to learn about the history of the electric railway.

All aboard! The best way to learn about history is to experience it for yourself. Hop on a trolley car and take a ride through the city. The route passes historic landmarks like the Iron Furnaces and offers scenic views of Roaring Brook. You’ll even pass through the Crown Avenue tunnel, one of the longest interurban tunnels ever built.

The station offers special themed rides and children’s events. You can even catch a ride to PNC Field for a RailRiders game. The trolley has additional runs during the holiday season, with special trips to benefit Toys for Tots and rides with Santa.

Stop by the museum to explore interactive exhibits and vintage trolley cars. The museum is home to artifacts dating all the way back to 1887, when Scranton opened its first trolley line. The kids will love the hands-on displays about electricity and the giant model trolley set.
