Cresco Station serviced the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western (DL&W) Railroad, which first came through Barrett Township in 1851, for more than 115 years. Freight trains carried hatchery fish, ice, railroad ties, and mining timber, and passenger trains brought tourists—sometimes 1,000 a day—to the Poconos.

Closed in 1967, Cresco Station was left abandoned until the Weiler Family Foundation stepped in. The restored station was re-opened to the community and made available to the Barrett Township Historical Society in 1999. Exhibits include memorabilia from bygone eras, especially the Civil War and the heyday of the railroad.
