Wyoming Valley Striders | Nonprofit running club building community & fitness in Northeastern PA
The Wyoming Valley Striders (WVS) is a nonprofit running club based in Northeastern Pennsylvania and proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating running club in the Wyoming Valley. Founded in 1975, the club has spent nearly five decades supporting runners of all ages and experience levels through community races, athletic events & youth engagement. WVS promotes a culture of health, camaraderie & competition while celebrating the region’s passion for distance running.
A Year-Round Calendar of Signature Events
The Wyoming Valley Striders organize a series of popular, well-established races that draw participants from across the region. Annual events include the Winter’s End 4.5 Mile Run in March, the Cherry Blossom 5 Mile Run in May, two age-graded trail runs that offer inclusive, performance-based competition, and a 20K race each November that challenges seasoned runners. These events foster participation and build tradition in the local running community.
Investing in the Next Generation of Runners
A cornerstone of the club’s mission is its support of youth athletics. Each Labor Day weekend, WVS hosts the Cliff Robbins Sr. Memorial Invitational, a cross country event that kicks off the high school season and honors the legacy of a beloved local coach. Through events like this, WVS inspires young athletes and strengthens the connection between school sports and the broader running community.
