Mission Statement
The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame endeavors to perpetuate the memory of local athletes, male and female, who have brought lasting fame and recognition to the state of Pennsylvania through their athletic achievements and community involvement.
The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame serves as a local chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Inc. Known as the John Louis Popple Chapter, it is one of 28 sanctioned chapters in the state.
The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame honors exceptional athletes from Luzerne, Bradford, Sullivan, Wyoming and Northern Columbia counties. It also pays tribute to those who have brought recognition to the state through managerial, promotional or other influential contributions to sports. As of 2022, the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame had 689 chapter inductees and 37 state inductees.
The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame not only honors the past, but they also support the promising athletes of the future. The organization awards scholarships to student-athletes in eligible school districts.
