Mission Statement
The co-founders of Brighter Journeys, through their personal experiences, have identified needs for families of children with complex medical or behavioral conditions. To address this gap, they have formed a charity to provide words of comfort, assist in directing to resources and provide tangible support to those families.
Brighter Journeys in Wilkes-Barre goes the extra mile for children with special needs and their families. This nonprofit comforts and encourages families and directs them to resources. They also provide tangible support, such as items and assistive devices that the families are not able to afford.
Founders Lisa Platko Urbanski and Bernice Simonds Sando are parents of children with special needs, and they were inspired to reach out to other NEPA families. Brighter Journeys’ services aren’t limited to a specific disability or diagnosis. They’re ready to support any local child with special needs.
Brighter Journeys hosts expos, fundraisers and social events. One of their most popular events is the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Mohegan Sun Pocono, which provides a fun afternoon for over 1,000 children with special needs each year.
