Mission Statement
The co-founders of Brighter Journeys, through their personal experiences, have identified needs for families of children with complex medical or behavioral conditions. To address this gap, they have formed a charity to provide words of comfort, assist in directing to resources and provide tangible support to those families.
Brighter Journeys | Supporting children with special needs and their families in Wilkes-Barre
Brighter Journeys is a nonprofit organization in Wilkes-Barre dedicated to uplifting children with special needs and the families who care for them. Founded by local parents Lisa Platko Urbanski and Bernice Simonds Sando, the organization was born out of personal experience and a desire to build a supportive community for families across Northeastern Pennsylvania. Brighter Journeys offers comfort, direction and assistance to those facing emotional and financial challenges.
Helping Hands for Everyday Needs
The organization provides families with much-needed assistive devices and other support items that may not be covered by insurance or within financial reach. Brighter Journeys connects parents with reliable resources and helps guide them through the often overwhelming maze of services and systems. Their outreach is inclusive—families receive help regardless of a child’s specific disability or diagnosis.
Events That Build Connection
Brighter Journeys hosts social gatherings, fundraisers and educational expos throughout the year. Their annual Easter Egg Hunt at Mohegan Sun Pocono is a community favorite, offering an inclusive and joyful experience for more than 1,000 children with special needs. These events are designed to foster connection, celebration and visibility for every child and family.
