Wine & Cheese Wednesday
July 20 @ 6:00 PM
MVD Restaurant and Bar
Wilkes-Barre, PA

Join MVD for an evening of Italian cheese and wine tasting and discussion featuring Suzanne Roth, a cheese expert at igourmet, a specialty foods importer, based right here in Northeast Pennsylvania in Mountaintop.
These interactive events will be held on Wednesdays this summer–either June 22 or July 20. The tasting will focus on several different regions of Italy and run from approximately 6 to 8 p.m.
As much as for pizza and pasta, Italy is famous for its cheese. The number and variety of types reflect the character, tastes, soil, climate, and habits of the different regions where they are found. Fresh and aged, made from the milk of cows, sheep, and goats–as we travel from its alpine northern regions, to its central plains and hills, to its southern coasts–the diversity of the country’s cheese offerings is immense.
A native of Kingston, Suzanne lived, studied, and worked in Atlanta for a decade, where she honed her skills in some of the city’s top restaurants where a nexus of creativity, freshness, quality, and hospitality has coalesced into a burgeoning international reputation for outstanding food and drink. Today, her career has brought her back closer to home with igourmet, where she manages a portfolio of close to 1,000 cheeses and works with tens of thousands of clients around the world.
Suzanne will take you to stops in Piemonte, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Sardinia, and Compania, offering insight on method and history of each producer and region.
Enjoyed together for centuries, what better compliment to cheese is there than wine?
So in addition to Suzanne’s cheeses, the tasting of course includes six diverse wines from MVD’s list paired with special accompaniments, created for the event by MVD Owner and Chef Val Sartor, to illustrate the beauty of pairing cheese with wine. The program is designed with beginners in mind, but even those well-versed in Italy’s cheeses, wines, and culture will surely enjoy the experience.
