Wilkes-Barré Preservation Society director and Hollenback Cemetery Association board member Tony Brooks will host a walking tour of Hollenback Cemetery, 540 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, September 24, at 11 a.m.
The tour will explore the life and times of military veterans from the Revolutionary War to World War II. Veterans include Colonel Benjamin Dorrance, Captain Joseph Davis, Lieutenant William Jones, General Isaac Bowman, Second Ensign George Denison, Lieutenant Rufus W. Marcy, Colonel John Butler Conyngham, General Asher Miner, and Private Dennis Diggs and members of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, an African-American regiment during the U.S. Civil War buried in the Wilkes-Barre City Cemetery.
Tour price is $10 and benefits the restoration of damaged and weatherworn gravesites. Children are free. Reservations are not necessary but are encouraged by calling/texting 570-793-3631.
