This year the Rail-Trail Council will offer several trail challenges for all abilities – running, biking, or walking.
Included is the D&H Distance Run (1/2 marathon), the D&H 5K, a 40-mile bike race, a 20-mile bike race and walking challenges on different trail sections.
All participants will receive a T-shirt with sponsor logos and a special 2020 D&H Rail-Trail Challenge design. T-shirts can be picked up at the Rail-Trail office in Union Dale (or Cables General Store) or mailed for extra. Days and times will be determined in September.
Do your challenge any time during September – PA’s Trails Month. Register at RunSignUp.com/dandhdistancerun. Record your time and distance using any app and send to [email protected] Your name, event and time (or distance) will be published on Scranton Running’s website scrantonrunning.com. Challenge your friends!
The D&H Distance Run and 5K will use the same course as in past years. Both races start at the Forest City Trailhead on Commerce Boulevard (start line will be painted on road). Racers head north on the trail, the 5K turnaround is just past the paved water company road and will have flagging and signage. The 1//2 turnaround is north of Union Dale, indicated with flagging and signage. Mile markers will also be placed on the course. The finish is located at the Forest City Trailhead at the post & rail fence—also will be marked and signed. Sponsor mile markers will be in place the whole month of September.
The 40-mile bike race (mileage is approx.) will begin at the Simpson Trailhead at Morse Ave. Start timing using your app at the gate to the north of Morse Ave. Bike to Ararat Trailhead’s gate, turn around bike (downgrade to Morse Ave gate). Send in gate to gate time. Both gates will be marked!
The 20-mile bike race (mileage is approx.) will begin at the Simpson Trailhead at Morse Ave. Start timing using your app at the gate to the north of Morse Ave. Bike to Union Dale trailhead. Turn around at caboose. Bike downgrade to Morse Ave gate. Send in time and distance!
Walking trail sections are not timed, but distance can be recorded and sent in. Many suggestions for different walks will be emailed to registered participants.
The event supports the ongoing improvements and maintenance of the D&H Rail-Trail. It’s only $20 for each challenge or donate any amount! Registration is now open. Register by September 1st to get a T-shirt. If questions call the RTC office at 679-9300 or email [email protected]
