Registration Is Open for the COVID-19 Virtual 5K Run/Walk
Fame Strength is planning a virtual race to support the CEO Weinberg Food Bank.
Fame Strength, a gym in Forty Fort, is holding a COVID-19 Virtual 5K to raise money for the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO). All proceeds from the event will go toward the CEO Weinberg Food Bank and programs to help families in need.
Most spring races are cancelled or postponed, but the virtual 5K will allow people to still compete at a safe social distance. Lace up your sneakers and take a run or walk anywhere, any time on April 25 or 26. Track your time using a fitness watch or an app, then submit your results and a photo to Fame’s Facebook page.
“We are encouraging our entire community to come together for a great cause. Get out of the house, do something active and help create some positive vibes throughout our community in a time we need it the most,” said Josh Mason, owner of Fame Strength.
“Virtual 5Ks are something people do all across the country, but I’ve never seen one produced in our area,” Mason said.
By keeping things local, the event will help families in need right here in NEPA. Fame Strength hopes to raise $5,000 for the CEO Weinberg Food Bank, which distributes food to over 160 partner agencies in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties. Since the coronavirus outbreak, some of CEO’s partners are serving three to four times as many people than usual.
Luckily, we can still lend a hand, even during quarantine. Hit the trail, jog through your neighborhood or jump on the treadmill, because every step counts.
