This summer we put out a call to our remarkably talented and reliable community of college students. And, once again, they answered that call in a big way.
They came from all over NEPA — some attending our fine 18 Colleges and Universities, others just coming back home for the summer. This group represented so many varied interests and majors. They all had one thing in common, however, and it just happened to be the biggest qualification required for the job – an unquenchable thirst for adventure.
Whether they were off jet skiing on Lake Wallenpaupack, biking the Back Mountain Trail or mastering the timeless art of fly fishing, this group was up for anything. They braved the cool rapids of the mighty Lehigh River and spent a lot of time exploring NEPA’s beautiful state parks. And they did all of these things with confidence, a welcome sense of wonder and a willingness to step out there and discover something new.
With each day, this class inspired us to reaffirm our mission and embolden our curious nature. Through their example, we’ve bolstered our resolve to, in turn, help so many of you rediscover home. Put simply, they have embodied the spirit of DiscoverNEPA. For that and so much more, the DiscoverNEPA staff, Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services and our founder, Robert K. Mericle, thank you. Good Luck.

As a DiscoverNEPA intern, part of my job is to explore the great outdoors! This summer was full of adventures, from cruising on Lake Wallenpaupack to checking out the local hiking trails. One of my favorite memories was our kayaking trip with Endless Mountain Outfitters. We took the Jeep down the winding country roads to Howland Preserve and launched our kayaks in the Susquehanna. We had to paddle upriver a bit (it was a killer arm workout!), but it was totally worth the work. As I floated back down the river, I got to soak up the sunshine and scenery. The views were breathtaking, from the rolling mountains to the hawks soaring through the cloudless skies. I’ve spent my whole life in NEPA, but the beauty of this region never gets old. That’s what I love about my internship— I learn about new places and rediscover the ones I grew up with.
I’ve been a DiscoverNEPA intern for a little over a year, and I’ve loved every minute of it. It was so exciting to watch DiscoverNEPA transform from a cool idea to a full-fledged website. I’d like to thank everyone on the team for this opportunity.

During my time as a DiscoverNEPA intern, I’ve had countless opportunities to experience all that Northeastern, PA has to offer. This wasn’t your typical 9-5 internship in that we were able to get out of the office and explore the area almost on a daily basis.
One of the greatest adventures that I experienced as an intern would have been our trip to Lake Wallenpaupack. I had the chance to drive a jet ski with one of the other interns, and, afterwards, we all enjoyed lunch at The Dock on Wallenpaupack. It was a great way to get to know each other since we all came from different towns and academic backgrounds.
I’ve definitely gained a lot of experience through this internship. As a photographer, I am passionate about my craft and DiscoverNEPA allowed me to practice it every day. I also earned a lot of experience with photo editing and using several different media. Ten out of ten would definitely recommend this internship! Thank you for all of the wonderful opportunities.

This summer I had the great opportunity to join the Mericle team as a DiscoverNEPA Intern. Coming into this internship, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect on a daily basis. However, everyone on the DiscoverNEPA team was extremely welcoming and made sure we each had a job to do.
A typical day at work consisted of my fellow interns and I “working” our way through state parks, county fairs, and hiking trails with our GoPros in hand, capturing the best of what the region has to offer. Every intern had the chance to escape the office, get outside, and explore. We all grew together and learned skills that would become helpful in our professional lives.
Being a DiscoverNEPA Intern this summer has taught me so much about the beautiful surrounding areas of Northeastern Pennsylvania. We often take what is around us every day for granted, but this internship taught me to stop and appreciate the true beauty of the area.
I’d like to thank the whole team at DiscoverNEPA for allowing me to expand my horizon and for giving me insight into the professional world. I am grateful for the chance to learn valuable marketing and videography skills as well as the opportunity to make an impact on a website that supports the area I know and love.

During my DiscoverNEPA internship the other interns and I got to go on several cool adventures including walking trails, fishing, and jet skiing. I also learned many new skills when it came to researching, writing and improving the website. This job not only taught me more about the region, but it also helped to get me much more involved in promoting it.
My favorite day on the job was when the DiscoverNEPA team went boating on Lake Wallenpaupack. We got some great video and photos out on the water. They even allowed us to take a ride on a jet ski. Courtney and I jumped at the opportunity. We were both a little nervous at first, but once we reached the open water, we let it rip and had so much fun. Despite almost falling off several times, we were able to get some great footage. We ended the day with a team lunch and a trip back to the office.
Just having the opportunity to take part in this project was incredibly rewarding. I am so proud of the work we were able to accomplish over such a short period time. I truly enjoyed my time working at DiscoverNEPA and I would like to thank all my fellow interns and the entire staff for making this such a great experience.

My experience as a DiscoverNEPA intern this summer was incredible. One of my favorite memories from my internship was going whitewater rafting with all of my DiscoverNEPA coworkers. I never had the chance to go whitewater rafting before this internship and I was a little nervous. However, after heading down river I instantly forgot about my fears and had the time of my life. I also had a lot of fun hiking, kayaking and discovering so many restaurants that I never knew existed.
I would recommend this internship to anyone because not only did I learn more about the business side of social media, I also had an incredible summer and made great memories and friends. I would like to thank the entire DiscoverNEPA team for providing me with such an amazing opportunity and for teaching me so much about marketing in a modern business environment and about NEPA itself.

DiscoverNEPA was definitely not your typical internship. Every day I was doing something different. One day I would be at Canteen 900 taking pictures for a snapchat promotion, and the next day, I would be cruising around Lake Wallenpaupack on a boat.
Out of all the great experiences during my internship at DiscoverNEPA, my favorite had to be the trip to the Wayne County Fair. Michaela, Marissa, Courtney and I headed up to Honesdale to take some video and grab some pictures of the fair. We got to play games, pet some horses and they even convinced me to go on the Ferris wheel (despite being deathly afraid). We always had fun no matter where the next adventure took us.
Aside from all of the fun, this internship also helped me to improve many important skills and to experience firsthand a modern business environment. I was able to work on projects in which I had a specific interest and build a lot of self-confidence. This internship not only helped me get ready for the business world, but I also had a lot of fun and still enjoyed the summer. All the free food wasn’t too bad either! Thank you all for this amazing opportunity.

Working with Discover NEPA this summer has been a privilege and a great learning experience. Throughout the course of this internship we went to a plethora of parks that I had never even heard of. When we would go to these parks we would bring the whole team, a few bikes, a drone and some GoPros to help us capture all the beauty that most people never knew was here.
Out of all the parks we visited Nesbitt Park was my favorite due to all the open space, a great biking trail and the sound of the river flowing nearby. At first, I was a little nervous to work for DiscoverNEPA due to my limited experience, but, once I met everyone, I felt much more comfortable and confident with my work. It was a great way to spend the summer and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a job next year.

The most fun I had during my DiscoverNEPA internship was by far the fly-fishing trip. I haven’t had the opportunity to get out on the water in a long time and it was exciting to try it again. It took a while, but I started to get the hang of it. The whole day brought back a love for fishing that I thought I had lost. Now, I can’t wait to get back out there in the near future. I just think it was awesome that I was asked to go fishing during an internship. My whole time at DiscoverNEPA this summer was incredible and I would like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity.
