NEPA’s Craft Breweries Capture Fall Vibes in a Glass

It’s Time for Sweaters, Campfires and Cold Fall Beers

Regardless of how you square it, autumn in Northeastern Pennsylvania is simply perfection. The weather is just right. Around every corner, vibrant foliage comforts the soul. Everyone’s all hyped on football and making pots of chili. The Halloween stores have rolled back into town. And the Mosquitoes have all died. So, we raise our pints to their welcome demise and… wait, is this not a “fall” thing? Well, it most definitely should be.

Anyway, aside from the natural and triumphant eradication of blood-sucking sky monsters, fall in NEPA is made complete because of one simple thing – fall beers! That’s right. Hop along to any of the 34 stops on the DiscoverNEPA Brewer’s Loop and you’ll find yourself in sweet autumn beer heaven.

Hopping Eagle Brewing Co., Hawley

The change of seasons inspires a wave of robust, new styles and flavors.

Gone are the days of crispy, poolside cruisers. These cooler temps call for beers with a little more body and spice. I don’t want to get all science-y, but I’ve read somewhere that the crunch of fallen leaves signals within the smell parts of our brains our natural maple, cinnamon and pumpkin receptors. Suddenly, we’re craving darker, malty ambers and red ales. We welcome the warm, liquid hug of velvety, toasty porters and chocolatey stouts. And, when we satisfy these natural, seasonal urges, for a moment, all is right with the world.

We made the rounds on NEPA’s bustling craft beer scene and talked to many competent, knowledgeable brewers. We even nodded approvingly and pretended to listen as we sampled their beers. They got all poetic about ABVs, IBUs and their exciting, new brews. So, we made a list – just for you.

Fall is calling, my friends. Get out there! Lace up those hiking boots (that aren’t really for hiking). Put on way more flannel than necessary (just layer it right up). Wear some kind of strange, unseasonable hat or scarf (seriously, it looks cool). And make sure you head out to a few of our local craft breweries to get that fall beer fix.
