Keep the Holiday Spirit Alive with Santa Trains, Classic Christmas Flicks, Local Shopping and More this Weekend
Start the weekend with a pair of holiday-themed train excursions on Saturday and Sunday. Hop aboard the Santa Christmas Tree Express at the Stourbridge Line in Honesdale. And don’t miss the jolly old elf on the antique trolley at the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton.
Squeeze in a little holiday shopping all weekend long at the Holiday Pop-Up Shops in Downtown Wilkes-Barre. Look for last minute gifts and enjoy a bit of holiday nostalgia during the Endless Mountains Christmas. Head out to the Hawley Silk Mill for their spectacular Hawley Holiday Market. Peruse gift ideas from dozens of local vendors at the Handmade Holiday Craft Show inside Wilkes-Barre’s Wyoming Valley Mall.
Get out for a little grown-up holiday fun on Friday night at the fabulous Nutcracker Ball Drag Show at the Ritz Theater in Scranton. Then, sip your way through NEPA’s southern counties on the Columbia-Montour Wine Trail from Friday through Sunday. Head to the beautiful ballroom at the Shawnee Inn for a swanky dinner full of toe-tapping fun during their Swinging Christmas.
Make a little room for some holiday fun with the kids. Catch a classic Christmas flick at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock during their Twelve Movies of Christmas. Experience an Old Time Holiday at the Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Stroudsburg on Saturday and Sunday. Grab a socially-distant “Elfie Selfie” with Santa and catch the Peanuts Holiday classic at the Ritz Theater in Scranton. Then, put on those aprons and make your way to Luzerne County Community College for their adorable Kids Holiday Cookie Baking Class.

Do a little downtown holiday shopping on Wilkes-Barre’s Public Square at this safe, socially-distant outdoor pop-up market. The open-air marketplace features individual shop stalls for each vendor.

Twelve Movies of Christmas

Get cozy and watch some of your favorite Christmas movies at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock. They’ll host free movie showings, including family favorites like Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life and Polar Express. Reservations are highly recommended.
The Nutcracker Ball Drag Show

Head to Scranton’s Ritz Theater for an enchanted evening filled with holiday cheer, R-rated humor, song, dance and tons of glitter. The 18 and over event features NEPA’s most sought after Queens. The evening features two show times.
Hawley Holiday Market
Saturday, December 12 & Sunday, December 13 at 10 a.m.
Knock a few items off that holiday wish list at the famous Hawley Silk Mill. Enjoy two days of holiday shopping at this unique artisan vendor market in one of the Poconos coolest, repurposed historic buildings.
Market at the Mall: A Handmade Holiday Craft Show
Saturday, December 12 & Sunday, December 13 at 12 p.m.
Shop small and local this holiday season at the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre. The mall has opened up over 36,000 square feet of indoor vendor space for you to peruse artisanal items, crafts and homemade goods.
Old Time Christmas
Saturday, December 12 & Sunday, December 13 at 3 p.m.
Experience a rustic holiday season at Quiet Valley, an eighteenth-century farm in Stroudsburg. Take a candlelight tour as re-enactors bring Christmas traditions to life. There will also be carolers, a live barnyard nativity, refreshments and handmade gifts. Tickets are available online.
Santa Christmas Tree Express
Every Saturday & Sunday Through December 20 at 3 p.m.
Hop onboard a magical holiday train ride at the Stourbridge Line in Honesdale. The train takes you to a trackside Christmas tree farm, where you can pick the perfect tree and watch the crew load it onto the train. The kids can enjoy a visit with Santa, and a little hot cocoa and cookies.
Holiday Weekend Bonus – Lights, Lights, Lights…
All month long, the spirit of the season is alive and twinkling throughout NEPA. Round up the kids. Bundle up in your best winter gear. Hop in the car and head out for some classic Christmas cheer.
Some of NEPA’s favorite parks and golf courses have transformed their grounds into glowing, holiday light displays. In addition to miles of Christmas magic enjoy mini-pop-up markets, hot chocolate, s’mores, fire pits and more.
NEPA’s Extraordinary Holiday Lights Displays
Festival of Lights
Daily through December 31 at 5 p.m.
The Festival of Lights at Stone Hedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock is nothing short of Christmas magic. This massive drive-through light display is about 2.5 miles long. Snap some pictures in the photo op area or warm up at the socially distanced s’mores pits.
Holiday Lights Spectacular at Nay Aug Park
Daily through January 7 at 5 p.m.
Drive through Scranton’s Nay Aug Park for a stunning show of over 100 light displays. Visits from Santa, socially distanced hayrides and horse-drawn carriage rides will also be available on select dates. This event is free, although donations are accepted.
Light the Night at Sugarloaf
Weekends through December at 5 p.m.
Get in the holly jolly spirit at Sugarloaf Golf Club. Their first-ever walk-through holiday light display will make you feel like you’re in the North Pole. Stick around for seasonal food and drinks, s’mores and other family activities.
