Head Outside this Weekend for Live Music, Baseball, Bike Rides, a Spooky Version of Christmas in July and More
Jumpstart the weekend on Friday by catching a classic flick at Wilkes-Barre’s F.M. Kirby Center during their “Come Back to the Kirby” Film Series. Stick around Downtown on Friday evening for Luzerne County’s popular Rockin’ the River concert at Wilkes-Barre’s River Common. On Saturday, snag a little adventure with Pocono Whitewater and Skirmish at their intense 1-Day Battles & Paddles event.
Enjoy tons of family friendly fun all weekend long. Start with a trip to the Slope Amphitheater in Pittston on Friday night for a Free Outdoor Movie. On Saturday morning, cool off at the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum during their super fun Water Day to benefit the Town Pool. Then, head over to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary for a tour and a lesson in Pig Pampering. And don’t miss the kid-friendly scavenger hunt through Downtown Wilkes-Barre as part of their Downtown Discoveries Children’s Passport Program.
Take your pick of a week-long string of home games at PNC Field. The RailRiders will be taking on the Rochester Red Wings from Tuesday through Sunday. Then, on Saturday or Sunday, get to Jim Thorpe for an easy cruise on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway’s always-popular Bike Train.
And, if you dare, summon the holiday spirits with two nights of fright at the Mahoning Drive-In’s creepy Christmas in July (The Horror Edition). Both nights offer double features of classic Christmas-themed horror flicks.

Celebrate the reopening of Wilkes-Barre’s iconic F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts by stopping in to catch a beloved classic. Throughout July, the Kirby will feature matinee and evening showings of Hollywood favorites at significantly discounted prices.
Rockin’ the River

Summer concerts are back on the riverfront in Downtown Wilkes-Barre! Stop by the River Common on the last three Fridays in July for free, live music from amazing tribute acts and seasoned local bands. This Friday’s lineup includes: The Tom Petty Appreciation Band and Brett Alexander.
Free Outdoor Movie – Beauty and the Beast

Spread out your blankets in the grass and catch a movie under the stars at The Slope Amphitheater in Pittston. They’re showing the 2017 live-action version of Beauty and the Beast. Admission, popcorn and drinks are all free.
Christmas in July (The Horror Edition)

Celebrate Christmas in July with two terrifying nights of classic, holiday-themed horror films at Lehighton’s Mahoning Drive-In. Each night offers a frightful double feature of scary Christmas flicks in all their 35 mm glory.

Head to Jim Thorpe and board the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway for a relaxing ride along the beautiful Lehigh River. Then hop on your bike and enjoy a stunning, 25-mile pedal back to town along the Lehigh Gorge Rail Trail. Reservations required.
Water Day at the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum
Saturday, July 24 at 10 a.m.
Beat the heat at the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum, where they’ll have water slides, water balloons and more. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Bloomsburg Town Pool. Tickets are available online and include regular museum admission.
1-Day Battles & Paddles
Saturday, July 24 at 9:30 a.m.
Catch an adrenaline rush with two outdoor adventures in one epic day. Spend the morning riding the rapids of the Lehigh River with Pocono Whitewater. Then, wage a paintball war at Skirmish in Albrightsville. Ages 10 and up can join. Reservations must be made in advance.
Downtown Discoveries Children's Passport Program
Saturday, July 24 — All Day Event
Kids 12 and under can join the Diamond City Partnership’s free Downtown Discoveries program. Visit the locations around downtown Wilkes-Barre and complete the activities to earn prizes. The program concludes on July 24 with an event in Midtown Village, featuring children’s activities, music, treats, character visits and a raffle drawing.
