Let’s Do Lunch: My Little Mexico

Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Wilkes-Barre

Welcome to My Little Mexico in Wilkes-Barre, home to authentic, delicious Mexican cuisine. They’ve been serving up classic tacos, enchiladas, dobladas, and much more since 2017. We recently stopped by the seemingly secret spot to check out what so many locals have been raving about.

First, we chatted with owners, Francesco and Nurys Castillo about their passion for Mexican cuisine. Their dedication to serving traditional, family recipes is evident in both the menu and the vibrant, welcoming décor. We were immediately greeted with bright, colorful artwork, festive Latin music and the distinct aroma of fresh, soulful Mexican food.

Some of their most popular menu items include tacos, enchiladas, tamales, and their Cuban sandwich. When we sat down, we were immediately greeted by a bowl of house-made tortilla chips and fresh, spicy salsa which we practically inhaled. Each crispy, salty bite was the perfect beginning to our lunch.

We started with the fish tacos, one of My Little Mexico’s most popular menu items. Fresh Tilapia topped off with pickled cabbage, jalapeños, avocados and a special sauce was an out-of-this-world combination. Quick tip – a little squeeze of fresh lime juice sends these tacos over the edge.

We couldn’t get enough tacos, so naturally we tried the Tacos de Carnitas. They came with perfectly grilled steak, topped with veggies and cheese and wrapped in a soft tortilla. Again, little touches like the fresh Salsa Verde elevated this meal to the next level.

Up next, Flautas — melty, gooey cheese wrapped in a fried corn tortilla. These gorgeous, golden, rolled tacos were a deep-fried dish from heaven. To top it off, you guessed it- more cheese, a drizzle of sour cream and fresh slices of avocado. The crunch of every bite and the stringy pull of cheese made this dish a winner in our eyes.

Finally, we just had to go for the Enchiladas. They came generously stuffed with shredded chicken and cheese and topped with melted cheese, sour cream and that zesty tomatillo sauce. As if these Enchiladas weren’t big enough, this dish also came with a side of savory rice, beans and crispy tortilla strips.

In all, we barely made a dent in this adorable, authentic stop’s wide-ranging menu. We did, however, leave full and happy and quite lucky for finding My Little Mexico. Stop in and check em’ out.

My Little Mexico is located at 200 Wilkes-Barre Township Blvd. Be sure to check out their Facebook page as well as their special board in house for menu changes and new items.
