This Sandwich Shop Is Kind of a Big “Dill”
Sorry, we just couldn’t resist making that joke. But really, KJ’s Pickle Barrel in Kingston is a popular spot. They whip up about 30 signature sandwiches, from toasted subs to deli classics like Reubens and Rachels.
The Hipster is by far the most popular sandwich on the menu. It includes turkey, melted cooper cheese and spicy chipotle mayo on a fluffy, toasted roll. The Rodeo’s another great choice, featuring oven-roasted chicken, cooper cheese, bacon and barbecue sauce on toasted sourdough. Each sandwich comes with KJ’s sweet and tangy house-made pickles on the side.
If you can’t get enough pickles, you have to order the famous Big Dillicious. KJ’s hollows out a giant deli pickle and fills it with all the fixings, including cold cuts, cheese, lettuce and tomato. In fact, you can swap out the bun for a pickle on any of KJ’s sandwiches (any sandwiches that are normally served hot have to be made cold).
KJ’s Pickle Barrel also makes soups and salads. The Cobb Salad is one of the top sellers with bacon, roasted chicken, hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomato and blue cheese over romaine.
As for sweets, they have fresh-baked desserts from Something Special. Insider tip: visit on “Free Cookie Monday” to get a cookie with any sandwich or salad.
KJ’s Pickle Barrel is located at 355 Market Street in Kingston. They’re currently open for in-house dining and takeout. They also offer delivery Monday through Saturday from 11-2, and they take online orders on ChowNow.
