CYC Shoots, Scores with Annual Fundraiser
The Catholic Youth Center’s 12th Annual March Madness Fundraiser at the Westmoreland Club, in Wilkes-Barre, tipped off a night of revelry and raising money in a lively atmosphere of basketball-themed everything. From the orange and black trimmings to the themed centerpieces, banners, and signage, the Club’s décor was a slam dunk.
Big-screen TVs throughout the Club broadcasted two of the four Elite Eight games—Loyola University Chicago versus Kansas State and Michigan versus Florida State—for hundreds of local hoops fans.
Guests took advantage of timeouts and halftimes to sample a variety of passed appetizers and food stations that offered fish & chips/shrimp & chips, cheesesteaks, taco salads, pizza, hot dogs, and skewers of shrimp, scallops, vegetables, and salmon. Three full bars and a beer station kept whistles wet, while the dessert bar satisfied each sweet tooth.
A perennial favorite of this event is the silent auction, which allows guests to bid on dnated items at all price levels. Jewelry, designer bags, autographed sports memorabilia, wine and liquor baskets, restaurant gift cards, golf packages, baseball and hockey packages, and so much more draw some spirited bidding. A special raffle was also held to award one lucky person a trip to Disney!
At the end of the night, approximately $100,000 was raised. The funds will be used to create scholarships for underprivileged youth to attend programs at the CYC.
