Join This Online Celebration on May 7
From our scenic trails to our famous pizza places to our amazing local people, there’s so much to love about Northeastern Pennsylvania. And on May 7, people all across the region will share their favorite things about NEPA for the first-ever #570Day. This online initiative aims to spread positivity, inspire local pride and celebrate the people and places within the 570 area code.
The Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club, Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visit Luzerne County have teamed up to make #570Day possible. They heard about similar celebrations in the Midwest and decided to bring the idea here to NEPA.
“It’s been quite a long year of the pandemic. We thought it would be a great time to do this positive movement that’s socially distanced by nature,” said Christine Mackin Meluskey, President of the Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club.
Anyone can join in! To participate, post pictures, videos and stories about your favorite things in NEPA using #570Day. It can be anything from a shoutout to your favorite local restaurant to the views from your latest outdoor adventure. The day is meant to recognize anyone or anything that makes this area so incredible.
“Our mission for the Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club is to serve our community,” said Mackin Meluskey. “Sometimes, things can get very overcrowded in social media. We thought this would be a great way to help the community by really putting a spotlight on all the great things that we have in Northeastern Pennsylvania.”
#570Day isn’t just for individuals. Mackin Meluskey pointed out that it’s an excellent opportunity for nonprofits to share their mission. Local businesses can also promote special #570Day deals.
Organizers hope the initiative will grow and become an annual celebration in the future.
