Experience a true working dairy farm.

Walk the grounds, meet the animals, volunteer your time and top it all off with a tasty ice cream cone. The Lands at Hillside Farms is a historic, non-profit, 412-acre, educational dairy farm in Shavertown. This stunning living museum and working dairy farm is located in a picturesque valley only a few miles north of Wilkes-Barre.

The Greenhouses

The farm, or Hillside as the locals call it, is a unique experience for any visitor. You can start with a stroll through the early 19th century greenhouses. Here you’ll find potted flowers, hanging baskets, vegetables and garden supplies.

The Mercantile

Stop by the Mercantile and shop for American-made items like soaps, candles and lotions. There is a wide selection of handmade jewelry, hats, and scarves, and local artwork and furniture from the farm’s own woodshop. They even have children’s items like books, toys, games and clothing.

The Potting Shed

The Potting Shed features an assortment of stylized décor items and antiques. The inventory changes frequently, bringing new life to old items.

The Dairy Store

Check out the incredible selection of locally-made products like honey, jams and salsas to name a few. You can pick up organic meats, eggs and their signature Hillside Gold milk.

And of course, no trip to Hillside is complete without their famous ice cream. This decadent, fresh-made treat is often hailed as one of the best throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. With a long list of delicious flavors, you’ll probably start planning your next trip before you even get down to the cone.

The Farm

After shopping, sightseeing and ice cream, you have to meet the stars of the show – the animals. The working farm is home to a giant herd of dairy cows, goats, llamas, sheep, chickens, peacocks, ducks, pigs, donkeys and so much more.

The Lands at Hillside Farms is an educational farm. Their goal is to ultimately promote healthy, sustainable choices in the way we eat, the way we treat nature, and the way we live. The farm welcomes volunteers all year long and invites local children to their annual summer camp programs.

Treat yourself and your family to a peaceful little getaway with a visit to the Lands at Hillside Farms. Lose yourself in a simpler time where hard work was rewarded at the supper table, and character was built one fencepost at a time.
