Mountain Views and Serene Streams

The Sugar Notch Ridgetop Trail is a 3-mile out and back trail in Hanover Township. The area was formerly mining land until the Earth Conservancy reclaimed it and turned it into a stunning green space. Today, it’s a popular place to escape into nature. The trail is so peaceful, it’s hard to imagine that you’re just outside of town.

The Sugar Notch Ridgetop Trail leads along the top of Wilkes-Barre Mountain, so it provides great overlooks of the Valley. Most of the trail follows Sugar Notch Run, a tranquil steam that runs through the forest. Along the way, you’ll also spot caves, a waterfall and an old railroad bridge.

The trail is mainly flat and consists of crushed stone and dirt. Trailheads and parking are located at the Greater Hanover Recreation Park off South Preston Drive and near the St. Mary’s/Holy Family Cemeteries on Main Street in Sugar Notch.
