The North Branch Land Trust preserves and protects the Montage Mountain Wildflower Sanctuary.
This 18-acre tract of oak forest along the northern border of Pittston Township is home to thousands of plants and animals. It’s one of the few places left where the endangered Appalachian Sandwort still grows.
The Wildflower Sanctuary is home to earthstar mushrooms, wooly blue violets and black huckleberries. Among the rocky outcroppings and scrub oaks, you’ll also spy the occasional field sparrow, basketball dragonfly or black racer.
