The Miner’s Memorial at King’s College honors anthracite coal miners from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The memorial features work by local artist Sue Hand. It consists of five large pillars each describing typical daily life for miners. The monument also features a Wall of Honor, with the names of miners who lost their lives on the job.
Six different PA counties sent men and boys into the mines. Unfortunately, harsh conditions led to countless injuries and deaths for the workers. The miner’s memorial is dedicated to those who sacrificed their health, and even their lives, to make NEPA what it is today.
