Get to know NEPA! From its quiet, rural villages to its bustling small cities to its historic towns, our little corner of Pennsylvania offers something for everyone — whether it’s all about work, play or just having that place to call home. Follow along as we take a closer look at all of NEPA’s convenient, safe, affordable and family-friendly places to live.

Safe, Convenient, Family-Friendly Towns With an Eye On the Future

At the point where Luzerne County meets its northern neighbor, Lackawanna County, the Greater Pittston Area spreads out around a western bend in the Susquehanna River, filling out the space between the Greater Wilkes-Barre and Greater Scranton metropolitan areas. This largely suburban community radiates outward from the charming city of Pittston. It also includes the boroughs of Avoca, Dupont, Duryea, West Pittston, Exeter, Laflin, Yatesville, Wyoming and West Wyoming. Jenkins Township, Pittston Township and rural Exeter Township, make up over half of the Greater Pittston Area footprint.

Since the late 19th century, the Greater Pittston Area served an important role in the Wyoming Valley’s anthracite coal industry. By the turn of the 20th century, the region also became one of the largest garment manufacturing centers in the country. And in the 21st century, it’s celebrated as the regional manufacturing and distribution nucleus. Throughout its founding and up to today, the Greater Pittston Area has remained one of NEPA’s most significant economic drivers.
