Toys for Tots 2018
Collecting Christmas Joy One Box at a Time
Local Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program Delivers Over 35,000 Toys Annually
You haven’t missed it! There’s still time to donate new, unwrapped toys.
Every October, November and December, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve embarks on a mission of good will. The Toys for Tots Program aims to collect and distribute millions of toys to less fortunate children all over the United States including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. There are currently 792 local Toys for Tots Programs operating throughout the country.
NEPA does its part.
Here at home, the Wyoming, Pennsylvania Toys for Tots campaign covers Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, and Wyoming Counties. The overall goal of the program is to bring communities together, and to bring the joy of Christmas along with messages of hope to NEPA’s less fortunate children.
You can help, too!
Perhaps the simplest way to take part in this noble cause is to purchase new, unwrapped toys and bring them to one of the official drop off locations. Popular toys include infant and toddler playsets, books (for all ages), bicycles, board games and arts & crafts. A list of drop off locations is available on the local Toys for Tots website.
Toys for Tots also accepts monetary donations through their official website. You may select your local Toys for Tots campaign when donating.
They also welcome volunteers to assist in the collection and distribution of toys throughout the duration of the campaign. Local businesses and organizations are also invited to inquire about becoming an official Toys for Tots toy drop off site. You can sign up to be a volunteer or to become a drop off site on your local Toys for Tots Website.
Helping out in a big way
For over 20 years, Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services has partnered with the Wyoming, PA U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign. Mericle assists the Marines by donating box trucks for transporting toys from drop off locations, and warehouse space to store thousands of toys throughout the year.
For Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services founder, Robert K. Mericle, however, all of this still wasn’t enough. He worked with his staff and over 75 Mericle tenants to conduct an annual Toys for Tots Challenge. Every year, the Challenge raises needed awareness about the campaign, and also fills hundreds of Toys for Tots cartons.
Mericle, along with popular tenant Skyzone, also team up to host the annual Semper Fly Dodgeball Tournament. More than 100 members of the local Marine Corps Reserve, Mericle tenants and employees participated in the annual event to raise money and awareness for Toys for Tots.
It’s often the little gestures that make the biggest difference.
So, keep an eye out for those Toys for Tots drop off boxes at your local businesses and organizations. And while you’re out getting that last-minute shopping done this season, remember this remarkable cause, pick up an extra toy and drop it in one of the big toy boxes.
