Taste of Success 2018/2019

Dine, Drink & Dance for a Good Cause

Each year, Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Inc. (JANEPA) holds a spirited fall fundraising event to support its curriculum, which benefits more than 11,000 local K-12 students. Live music and laughter fill the air at the JA Mericle Family Center for Enterprise Education, as funds are raised to teach entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness year-round. Area restaurants, caterers, wineries, and breweries provide food and drink tastings while guests bid on silent auction prizes and vie for raffle and other prizes.

The first day of Spring brought sunshine and smiles, growing excitement, and warm winds of generosity to Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s (JANEPA) Taste of Success event, held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

As guests entered the JA Mericle Family Center for Enterprise Education, in Pittston, they were greeted by the music stylings of Fake Uncle Jack Duo, who got hands clapping, toes tapping, and people singing along. Local radio DJ Frankie Warren, of Frankie in the Morning on Magic 93, returned this year as emcee, dispensing humor and information throughout the night, including the names of the 20 silent auction and 18 basket raffle winners.

Bidders walked away with some impressive auction prizes – from Michael Kors and Kate Spade designer purses to sports-themed packages, wine baskets, Moscow Mule and Old Fashioned trays, fine jewelry, a family package to Sky Zone, dinner and wine pairing at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, tickets to Rustic Kitchen’s In the Kitchen weekly cooking show, an outdoor adventure package – complete with brand new mountain bike – from DiscoverNEPA, and much more.

Food samples were delicious and plentiful, as some of NEPA’s top eateries like Center City Café, Chick-fil-A, Constantino’s, Cork, Franco’s, Mama B’s Kitchen, Red Leaf Salad Company, Ruth’s Chris, The Woodlands, Wolfgang Puck Express, Angelo’s Pizza, and Pierce Street Deli offered signature items.

Wine lovers enjoyed sweet and dry offerings from Bartolai Winery and sangria from Harvest Seasonal Grill, while Banko North and Susquehanna Brewing Co. introduced guests to their seasonal beers. Completing the dining experience was Sugar Plum Chocolates and a generous dessert display.

Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s (JANEPA) annual Taste of Success event raises much-needed funds to support the nonprofit’s curriculum of entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness for more than 10,000 local K-12 students. Through its capstone programs, participants are inspired and prepared to succeed in a global economy, learn to value free enterprise, and understand business and economics to improve the quality of their lives.
