Rainbow Walk 2017
Everyone going through this has one thing in common at The Center for Cancer Wellness — You don’t walk alone and there is hope for the journey
That’s the very emotional and very true sentiment spoken by the staff of Candy’s Place, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that relies wholly on donations from individuals and organizations to operate. Established in 1998, Candy’s Place holds breakout fundraising events throughout the year to support its many programs that are free to cancer patients and their loved ones.
Its largest fundraising event is the popular Rainbow Walk, a two-mile “Fun Walk” in which hundreds of supporters gather in Wilkes-Barre’s Kirby Park and stroll together through the city. Approximately 500 people cross the Market Street bridge, trek down South River Street to the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts, hike up the levee, walk back over the bridge, and return to the park
In 2017, a special Butterfly Release was added to the event to honor or memorialize loved ones. The names of those being honored by the butterfly sponsors were displayed on special signs along the path.
The Rainbow Walk is held annually in May. For more information or to donate to Candy’s Place, visit cancerwellnessnepa.org.
