Mission Statement

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity is an independent, nonprofit organization that builds simple, functional homes to sell to families in need. They use volunteer labor and charitable gifts to ensure their homes are affordable to low-income families living in Wyoming Valley.

Habitat families are selected based on level of need, willingness and ability to become partners in the Habitat program. Habitat selects families without regard to race, religion or national origin. Families who own Habitat homes contribute 300 to 500 hours of “sweat equity” on the construction of their home or someone else’s home.

Because Habitat houses are built using donations of land, material and labor, mortgage payments are kept affordable. Donations to Habitat for Humanity provide vital financial support to help them build and repair houses.

On a national level, more than 1 million people each year volunteer to build with the organization under trained supervision. They are always looking for volunteers to build, work in the ReStore warehouse and to donate lunches on Saturdays for other volunteers.
