Mission Statement

The Greater Scranton YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

The Greater Scranton YMCA in Dunmore puts Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. At the Y, strengthening the community is their driving cause. Every day, they work side-by-side with their neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

The Y is a hub for fitness. Their facility includes a wellness center, two Olympic-sized pools, basketball courts, racquetball courts, group exercise classes and personal training. From youth programs to senior groups, the entire family can stay active.

The Y is also home to an early learning center that sets children ages six weeks to six years on the path to success. Before and after school programs provide fun activities, homework help and nutritious snacks to kids in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Everyone deserves a chance to reach their full potential. That’s why no one is turned away from the Y for inability to pay. The Y offers financial assistance to cover membership and program fees for those in need.

The YMCA is the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. They always have, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. Every day, their impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when the community comes together for the common good.
