Mission Statement

The Center for Landscape Design & Stewardship (CLDS) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It was founded in 2008 for the purpose of promoting environmental and community sustainability through landscape-based education, demonstration and public outreach.

The CLDS teaches children and adults about sustainable gardening and ecological awareness. This all-volunteer nonprofit manages the Butler Township Community Garden in Freedom Park. The community garden offers about 100 plots where local families can rent space and grow their own food.

The nonprofit also leads educational workshops for all ages with their demonstration garden and teaching garden. From children’s camps to organic gardening programs, they offer something for everyone. Their Growing Markets internship teaches students how to grow and sell their own food at the Downtown Hazleton Farmers Market.
