Virtual Presentation: 75th Year Anniversary Celebration of Hickory Run State Park
Join in this virtual presentation highlighting the history of one of our most beautiful and iconic State Parks in Pennsylvania. The story of Hickory Run begins with both depletion and devastation of the land and fast-forwards to its’ eventual recovery and restoration. Lumber camps, saw mills, small quaint villages once dotted the landscape; floods and fire took their toll. Then through the foresight of Allentown businessman General Harry C. Trexler, then the National Park Service, and the hard work of the Civilian Conservation Corp, a story of resilience and reclamation unfolds. On September 16, 1945 Hickory Run becomes a State Park, within the Department of Forest and Waters in Pennsylvania. Today, nearly 400,000 visitors a year enjoy the 16,000 acre park and all the recreational amenities it offers. Our program will chronical some of these events and end with a look at Hickory Run of today. We hope you will join us for the journey.
