On Thursday, March 14, 2019, Wyoming Seminary will host an opening reception for Justin Hoch’s photography show, The Fire Inside, in the Rusty Flack Art Gallery at the Kirby Center for Creative Arts.
Hoch’s images have been on the cover and inside of every national wrestling publication and website in the US. Almost every major American wrestler follows him on Instagram and has used his photos in posts — many of them making their way to the coveted primary profile photo on various platforms.
He was recognized as the 2016-17 National Wrestling Media Association Photographer of the Year and his images have been broadcast by the NBC Nightly News, ESPN, and Madison Square Garden, among many others. This past October, he photographed his fourth world championship tournament in Budapest, Hungary, and has also worked in Iran, Senegal, France, and all over the United States.
The Fire Inside is perhaps the largest and broadest portrait project being done on any sport in the world, with over 1,700 individuals having been included thus far. Selections of the series have been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and most recently at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo, IA.
This is the first site-specific installation, shot and exhibited for a single community.
