Runners of all abilities take part in the annual Scranton Half Marathon, which begins and ends at Valor Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium, on Providence Road. The 13.1-mile race is vital to the community because it helps bring recognition to the area and increases the exposure and revenue of local businesses.
While the course is mainly roads, there are some well-groomed, crushed-stone trails along the way. The Scranton Half Marathon is also a treat for the eyes, as runners get to see the Green Ridge Section, downtown, and the historic Iron Furnaces.
Proceeds from the 2020 event will benefit the continued development of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.
