Street Photography from a Different Point Of View
Show Statement
The title of this show Drive by Shooting is derived from the imagery…basically street photographs made mostly while driving around and sometimes while parked next to a curb in and around Scranton and other locations. This way of photographing makes it easier for me to cover a lot more ground than I would be able to if walking.
I have always made it a habit to always carry some type of camera whenever I leave my house because you never can know when an opportunity to make an interesting photograph will pop up.
Most photographers know the mantra “everything is subject” and pictures are everywhere…the challenge is to see and photograph them.
Biography Rolfe Ross
I am a largely self-taught photographer, having photographed for many years, most seriously for the last forty years. I was also a rostered artist with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. For several years I taught photography in the summer program of the Northeast Migrant Education Program at Scranton High School. My primary interests are social documentary and street photography, primarily done in black & white although during the last ten years or so I have shot almost exclusively using digital means. I have studied with Mary Ellen Mark, Alex Webb, Antonin Kratochvil, Eugene Richards, Larry Fink, Constantine Manos and Elizabeth Opalenik, to name a few of my mentors.
