Toys for Tots 2019 Campaign

A Single Toy Can Make a Whole World of Difference

Mericle and Toys for Tots -- Delivering Christmas Cheer for Over 20 years in Northeastern Pennsylvania

Every child deserves the joy of finding a toy under the Christmas tree.

Every fall, our local Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program Teams up with Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services to deliver holiday cheer to families in need. For over 20 years, Mericle, local Marines, Mericle employees and over 100 Mericle tenants have come together to fill hundreds of donation bins. From October to December, employees at all of the drop-off locations bring in new, unwrapped toys.

And, as the bins fill up, so, too, does the need to haul and store all of those generous gifts. To this end, Mericle donates box trucks to assist in transporting the toys from drop-off locations. The company also sets aside valuable warehouse space for sorting, storing and distributing toys throughout the year. The annual partnership helps the local Marine Corps Reserve deliver over 35,000 toys to young girls and boys throughout the region.

2019 Toy Collection Drive

This year, the Wyoming, PA U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign placed collection bins at 63 Mericle tenant locations and 11 Downtown Scranton businesses. Over the course of two months, the annual effort collected 115 full cartons of toys. With Mericle’s help, Marines and volunteers will load thousands of toys onto trucks. And, over the few weeks leading up to Christmas, the toys will be sorted and distributed to families in need all over NEPA.

DiscoverNEPA Cycling Team Toy Collection Drive

Cruising for a good cause.

On Saturday, October 12, the DiscoverNEPA Cycling Team, in partnership with the Marine Corps Reserve and Mericle Commercial Real Estate kicked off its Scranton toy drive with a charity ride. Participants enjoyed either a 35, or 18-mile, guided “chill” ride throughout the Electric City. Following the ride, the cyclists and guests enjoyed pizza and beer generously donated by Domino’s Pizza and Susquehanna Brewing Company. The cost of entry for the ride was a donation of one, unwrapped toy.

The event concluded with the presentation of 11 toy collection locations throughout Downtown Scranton. From clothing stores and bike shops to popular restaurants, salons and even a tattoo parlor, collection bins were placed and quickly began to fill up. All told, the DiscoverNEPA Cycling Team’s effort resulted in two overflowing cartons of toys.

5th Annual Toys for Tots — Semper Fly Challenge

Sky Zone Pittston

Raising awareness with an evening of fun.

On Monday, November 18, Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park in Pittston hosted the 5th Annual Toys for Tots Semper Fly Challenge. For the past five years, local members of the Marine Corps Reserve and employees from both Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services and various Mericle tenants have competed in a high-flying, fun-filled challenge. The event supports and raises awareness for the annual Toys for Tots collection campaign.

This year’s event welcomed teams from the local Marines Corps Reserve, Mericle, PepsiCo, Maximus, and Tailored Brands. In all, 80 individuals participated in the challenge. They faced an obstacle course, jousting competition, tug-of-war, a log run and a climbing ladder. The challenge culminated with the traditional game of dodgeball.

Though the competition was stiff, one team managed to upset the Marines – a 4-time challenge champion. So, until next year, bragging rights belong to the excavation team from Mericle.
