Support NEPA’s Small Businesses – Shop Local Online

Local Retailers Take to the Web Offering Gift Cards, Online Deals, Free Shipping and the Occasional Free Home Delivery

While social distancing saves lives, it certainly takes a toll on the local, small business community.

All over Northeastern Pennsylvania, small, mom-n-pop shops, clothing boutiques, hair salons, spas and more have temporarily suspended operations. Main streets throughout the region remain quiet during this unprecedented life-saving social distancing effort. And, while NEPA’s small businesses deserve praise for their sacrifices, we, as a community, can do more to support them.

While the lights may be out, and the “closed” tiles hang in the windows, many of our local shops have converted to virtual marketplaces. Some, with already functioning websites didn’t miss a beat. Others, seemingly overnight, have created simple social media shopping experiences. They’re taking orders, and they’re more than ready to pack em’ up and to ship em’ out. And, in some cases, they’re even hopping in the car and delivering right to your porch.

There are several ways to support our local, small businesses. You’ve got the time. Do a little online shopping. Pick up some gift cards for use at a later date. You can even get to writing that rave review you’ve been putting off for no good reason. Remember, even if you’ve done a little, you’ve still done something.

We’ve gathered up some local retailers who’ve recently moved operations from brick and mortar to the web and social media. Have a look.

Clothing, Shoes, Accessories and More

Spring is in the air. That means stuffing away all the winter clothing and getting ready for warmer days. There’s just one problem – you need some new digs. Can’t run downtown? Don’t worry. NEPA’s chic clothing and accessories shops are waiting for you online. And, a lot of them will ship direct or deliver. Don’t forget to check their social media channels for seasonal giveaways and special deals.

Home & Garden

More time at home means, well… more time at home.

We might as well make the most of it. As nicer weather approaches, so too does the need for getting outside. Add some color to the garden. Spruce up that flower bed with fresh, new mulch. And take that patio to the next level with some vibrant potted plants. Our local home and garden centers are up and running. And though you may not be able to walk inside, you can still take your pick of flowers, plants, seeds, supplies and so much more. They’ll get them to you one way or another.

Spas, Wellness Centers and Salons

One area hardest hit by the current crisis is the self-care industry.

Spas, salons and wellness centers rely on person-to-person interaction as a major element of daily operations. In turn, many of us are finding just how difficult it is to get by without them. Our hair is hurting (you’ll just have to believe me on this one). We’re stressed like never before. And we can all use a little quiet relaxation. While we can’t run out to our hair dresser, or tranquil salt rooms, we can do our part to keep them in business. Get on their social media channels and buy gift cards, leave reviews, pre-book future appointments. And, when the time comes, they’ll be there to help sort out the messes we’ve become.

And don’t forget, for all of our friends, families, and neighbors, continue observing all recommended health and safety precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
