Downtown Wilkes-Barre Celebrates Summer with Outdoor Happy Hours

Earlier this summer, Diamond City Partnership launched Sunsets on South Main, a monthly, outdoor happy hour at Midtown Village in Wilkes-Barre. The event brings live music and locally crafted drinks to the heart of downtown.

We stopped by on August 19 to catch some of the fun. Susquehanna Brewing Company of Pittston was serving their lineup of local craft beers, while Boozy B’s offered wine, adult slushies and alcohol-infused ice cream. Franco’s was also there with slices of their famous pizza. Visitors relaxed while the NEPA rock band Stealing Neil jammed out all night.

Sunsets on South Main (or SOMA, for short) gives people a glimpse at all that downtown Wilkes-Barre has to offer. Many visitors stuck around afterwards to eat dinner at local restaurants or explore the downtown arts and culture scene.

Check out our photos from the other night, and don’t miss out on the next Sunsets on SOMA on September 16. This event will be the last one of the season. The festivities will start at 5 p.m. at Midtown Village (41 South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre). The musical guest will be Bret Alexander and Friends, featuring Ellie Rose and The Husty Brothers.
