Shiver Me Timbers, It’s a Pirate Attack!
The rapids of the Lehigh River are as wild as the seven seas, so don’t be surprised if you spot a pirate ship off the port bow. We joined one of Pocono Whitewater’s exclusive, family-style Pirate Rafting trips and found ourselves in the middle of a water war with a crew of silly swashbucklers.
We set sail from Jim Thorpe, and it wasn’t long before the pirates caught up on their custom designed raft. They planned a friendly attack on us landlubbers, but we were armed and ready to return fire with buckets and squirt guns. Luckily, no one had to walk the plank (although we did jump into the river for a little swim).
The trip took us down Class I and II rapids, which were thrilling and fun for the whole family. The day also included a riverside barbecue lunch and a post-trip bonfire.
Pirate Rafting is available daily through September 7 when you book a family-style trip with a check-in time is between 10:30 a.m. and noon. Kids as young as four years old can join. Call or visit Pocono Whitewater’s website to book your adventure.
