Celebrate the Long Weekend with Pizza, Pasta and Porketta

On Friday, August 30, we visited downtown Scranton for the opening night of La Festa Italiana. Every Labor Day Weekend, this celebration of Italian food and culture draws nearly 150,000 people.

Courthouse Square was filled with about 80 vendors selling homemade Italian food. Pizza, pasta, sausage sandwiches, porketta and cannoli were just the beginning of the delicious choices at La Festa. Vendors even served up NEPA favorites like kielbasa, pierogis and barbecue.

The festival boasts three stages and a jam-packed schedule of live music and entertainment. The Cameos, one of La Festa’s most popular acts, kicked off opening night with classic oldies tunes.

La Festa Italiana continues through Monday, September 2. Don’t miss signature events like the Captain James R. Minicozzi Memorial Race on Saturday and the cannoli eating contest on Monday.
