Fall

Autumn in NEPA is a glorious sight to behold as fall brings us the majestic changing of the leaves. And if it sounds opulent, that’s because it is.

Fall in NEPA

The mountains and valleys all around us are drenched in vibrant hues thanks to an occurrence that only happens in a few places in the entire world – and we’re lucky enough to be one of them.

Peaking in early- to mid-October, we’re treated to a kaleidoscope of technicolor – from fiery reds to brilliant oranges and radiant golds. It reminds us just how lucky we are to live in NEPA.

It’s also the perfect season to spend outdoors. From breathtaking fall hikes on scenic trails with sweeping vistas and family trips to the pumpkin patch, to scenic foliage train rides, harvest festivals and sweet sips at our local family-owned apple orchards, there’s no better time to explore and admire NEPA.

Foliage Hikes

D&H Rail-Trail, Union Dale, PA

To fully enjoy the colors of fall in NEPA, we lace up our favorite hiking boots and hit the trails. Our state parks and forests, preserves, rail-trails and quaint river towns nestled along the Susquehanna River are some of the best ways to leaf peep. Long countryside drives are a great way to take it all in too, but there’s just something about immersing yourself in the autumn foliage that is so special.

The verdant greens of summer transform to the colorful spectrum of fall across our 10-county region while we enjoy Mother Nature’s masterpiece. Crisp cool air and crunching leaves underfoot are what fall’s all about. It’s NEPA’s finest hour and we promise it won’t disappoint.

NEPA’s Harvest Season

NEPA embodies everything iconic about fall, including some of the best festivals, fairs and family-friendly outings. Case in point: fall just wouldn’t be the same without a trip to the historic Bloomsburg Fair for our favorite foods, carnival games, rides, adorable animals and terrific entertainment.

Locals return to Roba Family Farms pumpkin harvest festival and glow pumpkin trail year after year as part of their annual harvest traditions. And at Lakeland Orchard & Cidery, their apple harvest festival gives you a chance to roam their orchards filling your basket to the brim with sweet Macintosh, crunchy Honeycrisp and tart Granny Smith.

In Jim Thorpe, stroll the streets of this charming Victorian town during their annual fall foliage festival for family-friendly activities, free outdoor concerts, entertainment, local shopping, dining and of course, a scenic train ride on the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad.

All across our region, from small-town rural communities and quiet suburbs to bustling cities, NEPA knows how to embrace fall and celebrate it. Hop on a wagon and take a ride out to the patch to pick the perfect pumpkin. Explore a corn maze. Try incredible apple cider donuts.

And when spooky season rolls around, we pull out all the stops. From West Pittston’s Halloween Town to Hallo-Fun Weekends at Knoebels to downright freighting haunted attractions, community trunk or treats and costume contests, we embrace a good scare and celebrate Halloween’s traditions.
