Enjoy Autumn Views on the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad
The fall colors are starting to return to NEPA, and we couldn’t think of a better way to soak up the views than with a ride on the historic Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad. All month long, the railway is hosting scenic train excursions from Pottsville to Jim Thorpe.
Passengers boarded the ’50s-style rail diesel cars in Pottsville, then stopped in Schuylkill Haven and Port Clinton. The ride took them into the heart of the Pocono Mountains, which is consistently ranked one of the best places in the country to view the fall colors. The forests are blazing with vibrant reds, brilliant oranges and rich golds every autumn.
The train pulled into Jim Thorpe just in time for opening day of the town’s annual Fall Foliage Festival. The event draws thousands of visitors each year with free outdoor concerts, local shopping and, of course, the spectacular scenery. Between the fall colors, rolling mountains and Victorian streets, the town truly looks like a scene from a postcard. The Fall Foliage Festival continues every weekend through October 24.
We caught up with the train in Jim Thorpe and couldn’t resist snapping some photos. Check out our pictures, and book your ride on the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad. Tickets for their fall foliage excursions, along with other rides, are available online.
