The Osterhout is Back!
After a long halt to normal operations, the Osterhout Free Library has reopened with the community’s health and safety first on its mind.
As we sail into the phase of reopening our community, the Osterhout Free Library is now welcoming back its patrons. We have weathered a storm over these past few months, and we will continue to navigate these uncharted waters together. Throughout it all, as it has for the past 131 years, the Osterhout Free Library has adapted to challenging times and has maintained its service to our community.
As we weather this unprecedented storm in our lives, we have adjusted our course. And, though we’re all operating a little differently these days, we’re aiming for normal every chance we get.
Please join us in supporting the Osterhout Free Library with our Summer’s End Seafest Event. It’s one we can enjoy and celebrate together, yet in our own safe harbors. While we wish we could be together, the party is still on.
Enjoy an old-fashioned seafood feast!

Your support travels so much farther than you know.
Where would many of us be without the information we find in our public libraries? 100% of the proceeds raised from the Summer’s End Seafest Dinner and the Virtual Auction and Raffle benefit the Osterhout Free Library.
When you show support for the Osterhout Free Library, you are giving back to the community. Many Luzerne County residents utilize the library’s programs to continue their education, to conduct research and study for post-secondary school exams, and to immerse their children and grandchildren into the wonders of reading.
The Osterhout Free Library is a dynamic, versatile community center. In 2019, we welcomed over 125,000 visitors. More than half of young adults and seniors living in poverty in Luzerne County came to the Osterhout to access the Internet and participate in life enriching programs. Many used the library to find work, apply to college, secure benefits, learn new skills, and file for unemployment. To so many, the Osterhout is a lifeline. And we’re thankful for your support.
