Looking Forward to Summertime at Creekside Gardens

With the cold, bitter weather lately, I find myself daydreaming a lot about flowers, warm air, and the soft croaking of frogs: just a few of my favorite things about summer.

One place I love to go during a slow summer day is Creekside Gardens. Just outside of town in Tunkhannock, this garden center has such a unique, magical vibe to it. As a plant lover, I always visit for the wide selection of plants and pots. And, of course, I always bring a little extra cash for the unique items inside the Cabin Gift Shop. From vintage posters, to crystals, to artisan goods, anyone can take home a little of nature’s whimsy.

The atmosphere and mood are also different compared to most garden centers.

There are so many cute spots for quick photo opportunities, like adorable stone pathways, koi ponds (with those beloved croaking frogs) and even the greenhouse itself. There’s just something so special about it, and it makes you feel closer to nature. Even if you don’t have the greenest thumb, the knowledgeable staff is always ready to help you find what you’re looking for.

As much as I love the garden center, I’m always on the lookout for Jasper. The spunky, black cat is the true star of the show at Creekside Gardens. He can be found greeting visitors in the shop or out guarding the grounds from mice. And when he’s had enough socializing, he finds privacy in his own room within the gift shop. In the event room, also available for private events, if you look close enough, you’ll find Jasper’s own little entry portal.

Four seasons of family-friendly fun.

Creekside Gardens hosts several events throughout the year. So, there is always something new here for everyone (even your kiddos). In the summer, they open their butterfly house for visitors to learn about, feed, and even release Monarch butterflies. They also have farmer’s markets and food truck events for home-grown goods and great eats.

Once the warmth of summer starts to cool down, they also have festivities fit for the fall! You can take a walk along their illuminated pumpkin trail. It’s lined with hundreds of adorable, hand-carved jack-o’lanterns. Then, take part in their annual pumpkin scavenger hunt and scope out all of the unique designs!

Although winter blues can make us miss the outdoor wonders, keep in mind that Creekside Gardens is still open during the wintertime with indoor plants and other treasures to help hold you over until Spring.

Visit Creekside Gardens at 4 Village Lane, Tunkhannock, PA. And, of course, you can always check out their website, or follow along on social media.
