Montage Mountain Resorts - Family Fun - DiscoverNEPA

Discover endless hours of winter fun, from skiing to ice fishing to scenic, snowy trails.

Winter is upon us, NEPA. And, while we’re enjoying the cheery, hustle and bustle of the holiday season, soon we’ll be looking to fill those snowy days with a little fun. Whether you’re into shredding down the slopes or scenic, snowy hikes, we’ve got you covered. A little chilly weather is no match for our sense of adventure. Because when those temps drop and the flakes start to fly, we just can’t help heading outside.

It’s all about keeping warm and staying active. During a “true” NEPA winter we get around three solid months of skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. By mid-January, our lakes are sufficiently iced over for a full season of ice fishing. Of course, all season long, you can head out to most of our local and state parks for miles of gorgeous winter scenery. And, if it all gets to be a bit too much, you can always head inside for a little dose of summer at one of our indoor waterparks.

We’ve rounded up plenty of winter fun to keep you going all season long. Check it out.

Hit The Slopes

From December through March, NEPA is all about taking on those beautiful, snow-covered mountains. For some, there’s no better way to enjoy our winter wonderland than by carving down the side of a mountain. Whether you prefer to shred on skis, a snowboard or via tube, we’ve got 8 amazing ski resorts with plenty of options for endless winter fun.

Winter Hikes

All winter long, NEPA’s incredible local, state & national parks are open for business. We’re talking hundreds of scenic trails, winter wildlife, frozen lakes and so much more. Bundle up. Bring a camera. Fill up a thermos with something warm and escape for a while in the quiet, winter wonder of some of our most beloved parks.

Ice Fishing

Don’t go putting away those fishing poles. Sure, our parks are blanketed in snow and our lakes are frozen over, but that doesn’t mean we’ve got to give up on fishing. In NEPA, droppin’ lines is a year-round sport. Basically, if the fish are biting, we’re gearing up and getting out there. Just don’t forget your heavy socks or your PA Fishing License.

Indoor Waterparks

At some point during a NEPA winter, even the hardiest among us could use a little break from the cold. Ditch those snow boots for some flip flops and the thermal underwear for a swimsuit and take the party inside at one of NEPA’s awesome indoor waterparks. Book a weekend stay, or snag some day passes and enjoy tons of summertime fun in the dead of winter.
