NEPA Weekend Round-Up 12.07.18

Get cozy with some cookies and cocoa! It’s time to make holiday memories with the family!

Bring on the Christmas cheer at this weekend’s holiday celebrations! Hawley Winterfest is an entire weekend overflowing with festive activities throughout the Lake Wallenpaupack area. On Friday and Saturday, stroll through historic Tunkhannock at Christmas in Our Hometown. Step into a winter wonderland at the Harry Packer Mansion, where they’re hosting Nutcracker-themed tours all weekend.

A few holiday spirits are sure to put you in the Christmas mood! Check out Wassailfest & Holiday Night Market on Friday. This “shop and sip” event features drink tastings throughout downtown Hazleton’s small businesses.

Maria von Trapp should add the Scranton Cultural Center’s Broadway series to her list of favorite things! The Sound of Music is playing in the Electric City for this weekend only. If you need a break from all those Christmas carols, check out pop performances at KRZ’s Let It Show on Saturday at the F.M. Kirby Center.

There’s only two and a half weeks to finish that holiday shopping list! Head to the Midtown Village Holiday Pop-Up Shops in Wilkes-Barre, which are open for business all weekend. On Saturday, browse over 50 booths at the Greater Scranton YMCA Annual Holiday Vendor and Craft Fair. The Christmas in Bloom Holiday Craft and Gift Show kicks off at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday. And stop by The Globe on Wyoming Ave. in Scranton all weekend long for the Lackawanna Winter Market. Over 60 vendors will be lined up to help cross those last few names off your list, and there will be a loaded entertainment schedule featuring the sounds of the season.

  • Hawley Winterfest

    Hawley Winterfest includes over 50 events throughout the Lake Wallenpaupack region. Enjoy some frosty fun with outdoor activities like carriage rides, campfires and a living nativity, or cozy up inside at a craft fair or concert. Check out local businesses and restaurants for special events like the Holiday Artisans’ Fair at Hawley Silk Mill and Holiday Brunch with Santa at Silver Birches. The festival is held all day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

  • Christmas in Our Hometown

    Tunkhannock invites you to spend the holidays in the Endless Mountains at Christmas in Our Hometown. The festival kicks off on Friday at 5 p.m. with the tree lighting and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus. The activities continue on Saturday morning with breakfast with Santa, the Reindeer Run 5K, and a pet parade. Both days feature family activities like movies, concerts, horse and carriage rides, a living nativity, and craft workshops.

  • Nutcracker Holiday Tour at the Harry Packer Mansion

    The Harry Packer Mansion sure knows how to deck the halls! Each room in this Victorian house is decorated like iconic scenes from The Nutcracker. Take a family-friendly tour of the house and get lost in the world of sugar plum fairies and nutcracker princes. Tours start at 4 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tours continue every weekend through December 23.

  • Wassailfest & Holiday Night Market

    Downtown Hazleton is hosting Wassailfest & Holiday Night Market, a special shopping event corresponding with the city’s First Friday art walk. Take a self-guided tour of the local shops and sample holiday drinks (the perfect way to warm up on a winter night!). They’ll also have special deals and over 40 craft vendors throughout town. Pick up your tickets, map, and tasting mug at 31 West Broad Street starting at 4 p.m. on Friday.

  • The Sound of Music

    It’s not Christmas unless you watch The Sound of Music with the family. This year, catch the live Broadway production of this beloved musical at the Scranton Cultural Center. Don’t miss out—it’s only in town for one weekend! Shows are on Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Over a dozen local crafters, artists, and retailers will set up booths at the Midtown Village shopping district in downtown Wilkes-Barre. The shops open at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon on Sunday. The market continues every weekend until Christmas.

    Christmas shopping is a breeze at the Greater Scranton YMCA’s Holiday Vendor and Craft Fair. They’ll have about 50 booths featuring one-of-a-kind gifts and handmade crafts. Admission is free, and doors open on Saturday at 2 p.m.

  • Christmas in Bloom Holiday Craft and Gift Show

    Find the perfect gifts for everyone on your list at the Christmas in Bloom Holiday Craft and Gift Show. Dozens of crafters, artists, and wineries will set up booths at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday. They’ll also have a petting zoo, live reindeer, and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus for the kids. Doors open at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.

    Find it all from handcrafted jewelry and artwork to personalized perfumes and whiskey tumblers. Over 60 local vendors will be on hand to help narrow down that shopping list. The market runs from Friday, Dec. 7 through Sunday, Dec. 9. Shoppers can begin piling in at 5 p.m. on Friday, and the shops will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
