An Iconic Race, Fall Fests and… Wait, Do We Smell Pizza?

These cool, crisp days are the prime time to get outside. Join us on Saturday to cycle through Scranton at the DiscoverNEPA Toys for Tots Charity Ride. On Sunday, cheer on the runners at the Steamtown Marathon, a Boston qualifier that benefits St. Joseph’s Center.

Calling all foodies! On Saturday, over a dozen local pizza shops will come together under one roof at Montage Mountain’s first-ever NePizzA Festival. Sample all that our local farms, breweries and wineries have to offer at the Tunkhannock Rotary Harvest & Wine Festival on Saturday and Taste the Local Harvest on Sunday.

This Columbus Day Weekend marks the height of NEPA’s fall celebrations. The Pumpkin Fall Festival at Rohrbach’s begins on Friday with corn mazes and hayrides. For even more fall fun, head to Harvest and Heritage Days in Honesdale or the Autumn Timber Festival at Shawnee Mountain. And you still have one last chance this season to visit Pittston’s Second Friday Art Walk.

With Halloween just around the corner, you can’t help but embrace the spooky spirit. On Friday, the F.M. Kirby Center will host a special screening of Hocus Pocus with a visit from actress Kathy Najimy. Explore Knoebels’ spooky side at Hallo-Fun Weekend, which begins on Friday. On Sunday, you’ll find even more thrills and chills at the Broadway Fright Fest and the NEPA Horror Film Fest.

Finally, October marks the long-awaited return of hockey season. Cheer on the Penguins at their first home game on Saturday.

  • DiscoverNEPA Toys for Tots Charity Ride

    Join us and our friends at Veloce for our Toys for Tots Charity Ride. Donate a toy to participate in your choice of the 16-mile “chill” ride or the 35-mile intermediate ride. We’ll have pizza and beer waiting when you return. Registration opens on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Veloce.

  • Steamtown Marathon

    The Steamtown Marathon brings the entire community together, whether you’re logging all 26.2 miles or cheering from the crowd. Runners from across the country will race from Forest City to downtown Scranton, all to benefit St. Joseph’s Center. The starting gun goes off at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

  • NePizzA Festival

    In NEPA, we take our pizza seriously—so seriously that Montage Mountain is hosting an entire festival devoted to one of the area’s favorite foods. Come to the NePizzA Festival to sample slices from over a dozen local pizza parlors and vote for your favorite. The most epic pizza party ever starts at noon on Saturday.

    Sample local wines and craft beers at the Tunkhannock Rotary Harvest & Wine Festival at Lazybrook Park. Popstar Drive and Idol Kings will play live music all day. The festival begins at noon on Saturday.

    North Branch Land Trust and Huntsville Golf Club are putting on a farm-to-table feast at Taste the Local Harvest. The dinner features food and drinks from NEPA’s own farms, breweries and wineries. It begins at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

  • Pumpkin Fall Festival

    The Pumpkin Fall Festival at Rohrbach’s Farm Market will check off all the boxes on your autumn to-do list. Take a hayride, pick the perfect pumpkin and find your way out of the corn maze (take a flashlight and go at night for an extra challenge!). The festival is open on Friday and Saturday and continues on select weekends in October.

  • Harvest and Heritage Days in Honesdale

    Fall is in the air at Harvest and Heritage Days in Honesdale. This fall festival features hayrides, tours, craft vendors, music, games and more throughout town. Special events include a farmers’ market and antique car cruise on Saturday and a pet parade on Sunday. The festivities start at 11 a.m. on both days.

  • Autumn Timber Festival

    The Autumn Timber Festival at Shawnee Mountain is an entire weekend of lumberjack shows, blacksmith demos, chainsaw sculptors, sawmill demos and live country music. The scenic chair lift rides will provide awe-inspiring views of the fall foliage. Gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

    Run amuck with the Sanderson sisters at the F.M. Kirby Center’s showing of Hocus Pocus. They’ll have a discussion and Q&A session with actress Kathy Najimy, followed by a screening of the beloved movie. Get your tickets for 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
