Over 50,000 people will be heading to the Tomato Capital of the World this weekend!
This weekend marks the Pittston Tomato Festival, a small-town celebration that has gained national attention. Saturday features the iconic tomato fight, where participants fling tomatoes at each other in a messy (but totally fun) brawl. The festival also features a 5K race, parade, contests, vendors, music, and local food.
There’s still time for some family fun before school starts! Downtown Wilkes-Barre will show off its creative side at the Third Friday Art Walk. Parents can browse the local vendors and art exhibits, while the kids will enjoy crafts and other activities. On Sunday, the West End Fair begins in Gilbert. The thrill of the midway and the delicious fair food will delight the whole family. Take a day trip to nearby Williamsport to catch the Little League World Series, which runs from August 16 through August 26.
Jam out with this weekend’s concerts and music festivals! On Friday night, dig your neon leg warmers and shoulder-padded jacket out of the closet. Rock 107 is hosting Back to the Eighties with Jessie’s Girl at the Leonard Theater in Scranton. If bluegrass is more your style, check out Mountain Ride at Powerhouse Eatery on Friday night.
