From Outdoor Adventures to Local Festivals, There’s No Shortage of Weekend Plans in NEPA!
It’s prime time to get outdoors! Soak up the sunshine and fresh air this weekend at Montage Mountain. They’re hosting the NEPA Yoga Festival on Saturday, the perfect way to chill out with relaxing classes and meditation. On Sunday, take on the Montage Mountain Trail Half Marathon. The course will take you across the slopes and through the scenic forests. Explore the Lehigh Gorge during the Dam Release Whitewater Weekend, where you’ll take an epic journey down the rapids. If you’d rather see the sights from dry land, check out the Bike Train on Saturday and Sunday. You’ll take a train ride along the Lehigh River, then bike 25 miles to historic Jim Thorpe.
One of the best things about the summer festival season is the food. Join a delicious NEPA tradition at the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival on Friday and Saturday. Sample your way around downtown Pottsville during Food Truck Friday. On Saturday, bring your pup to Pittie Palooza at Maiolatesi Wine Cellars for a day of wine tastings, music, and dog-friendly fun.
The weather’s getting warmer, and NEPA’s art scene is heating up too! Scranton Iron Furnaces is hosting Arts on Fire, a festival featuring live demos of blacksmithing and glassblowing on Saturday and Sunday. Check out live music and art exhibits at First Friday Scranton. Tune in to the Tony Awards on Sunday evening at POSH. The watch party benefits the Scranton Shakespeare Festival. On Saturday, stop by the Everhart Honors Fundraising Event, a night of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to benefit the Everhart Museum.

NEPA Yoga Festival
Find your inner Zen at the 6th Annual NEPA Yoga Festival at Montage Mountain Waterpark on Saturday. The day is packed with yoga and meditation classes to refresh your mind and body. No worries if you can’t touch your toes—they offer classes for all skill levels. They’ll also have inspirational speakers, live music, vendors, local artists, slacklining, food, and children’s activities. The festival starts at 8 a.m.
Montage Mountain Trail Half Marathon
Lace up your sneakers for the Montage Mountain Trail Half Marathon on Sunday. This challenging course has 3,500 feet in elevation gain and scenic views from the slopes. It will also serve as the USATF Trail Half Marathon National Championship. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. The starting gun goes off at 9 a.m.
Dam Release Whitewater Weekend
Join Whitewater Rafting Adventures for a wild ride down the Lehigh River this weekend. The dam release means that the rapids will be roaring! The trip also includes a cookout and discounted zipline rides. This is one of their most popular trips, so call ahead to make a reservation. The trips begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
From the rails to the trails, you’ll catch some of the best views of the Lehigh Gorge on the Bike Train. This scenic tour starts in Jim Thorpe, where you’ll load your bikes on the train and ride to the trailhead. Then you’ll take a 25-mile ride down the Lehigh Gorge Trail. Rental bikes will be available. The train leaves at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Edwardsville Pierogi Festival
Celebrate one of NEPA’s favorite treats at the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival on Friday and Saturday. The entire town comes alive with music, vendors, games, a parade, and the main attraction: the food. This festival is foodie heaven, from deep-fried dumplings to pierogis sautéed in butter and onions. The festival opens on Friday at noon and Saturday at 10 a.m.
Food Truck Friday in Pottsville
Grab dinner on the go at Food Truck Friday in downtown Pottsville. The food trucks will set up shop throughout the business district. It’s a great way to explore town and sample plenty of gourmet goodies while you’re at it. Food Truck Friday begins at 5 p.m.
Everything’s better with dogs. On Saturday, join Maiolatesi Wine Cellars for Pittie Palooza, a dog-friendly wine and music fest. Bring your four-legged friend for a day of wine tastings, live music, food trucks, vendors, artists, and more. The event benefits local animal shelters and rescue groups. All dog breeds are welcome. Doors open at noon.
Arts on Fire
Arts on Fire will turn up the heat at Scranton Iron Furnaces on Saturday and Sunday. This free event celebrates the arts with an industrial edge, including metalworking, blacksmithing, glassblowing, and stained glass. Check out live art demos, music, food, activities, local artists, and kids’ activities. The main festival opens on Saturday at 11 a.m. Workshops continue on Sunday at 10 a.m.
First Friday Scranton
Spend a summer night strolling through downtown Scranton at the monthly First Friday art walk. Local shops, restaurants, and galleries will host art exhibits and live music all night. Support NEPA’s local artists and discover the Electric City’s creative side starting at 5 p.m.
A Night at the Tonys with Scranton Shakespeare Festival
Join the Scranton Shakespeare Festival for a Tony watch party at POSH on Sunday. Walk the red carpet and enjoy an evening of hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and live music. The event benefits the Scranton Shakespeare Festival, a nonprofit that offers free theatre performances to the community. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
