Kick Off May with Outdoor Excursions, Spring Festivals & Mother's Day Celebrations
Kick off this first May weekend with a bit of outdoor fun. Catch a glimpse of rare spring migrants at Nescopeck State Park with a guided Morning Bird Walk. Or walk for a good cause at the 25th Annual Candy’s Place Walk, benefitting the organization’s research efforts. If you prefer cycling, the Jim Thorpe Bike Train is back for another season of scenic rides through Lehigh Gorge.
Festival season is upon us. Downtown Scranton holds its monthly First Friday, spotlighting local artists and musicians throughout the city’s most popular spots. And Montage Mountain hosts Pennsylvania’s world class wineries for the Spring Wine Festival.
A variety of live acts hit NEPA stages this weekend. Prepare for an evening of side-splitting laughs when Nikki Glaser brings her nationwide tour to the F.M. Kirby Center. Limp Bizkit is “Rollin'” to the Mohegan Sun Arena with their “Still Sucks” Tour. And, of course, don’t miss the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on the ice as they open a best of three playoff series on Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Of course, you can’t forget to celebrate mom this Sunday (or any day, for that matter). Before brunch, sneak away for a Mother’s Day Hike at Bear Creek Preserve, an outdoor excursion solely for the ladies. Then head to one of the area’s hottest restaurants for a special Mother’s Day meal fit for a queen.
